The iron-rich fire at the centre of the earth is just as vital to earthly life as the sun: the rotation of the planet combined with electric currents in the molten core produce a magnetic field that deflects out into space most of the ferocious solar winds that would otherwise have us fried. No fire at the core, no atmosphere.
Contemporary research shows how magnetic fields affect body chemistry. In 2007 a report was published (and reported in UK broadsheets such as The Guardian) detailing how a rapidly changing magnetic field could stimulate the mid-brain and promote the growth of new nerve cells.
We’re not suggesting that simply connecting via your imagination to the fire at the centre of the earth will revolutionise your thinking, but thinking outside the box of your familiar conceptual field requires some kind of creative spark. Drawing that creative fire spark from beneath you, from a shared place, funds your own creativity and also nourishes. There’s very little lovelier than feeling quite at home in yourself and a part of something beautiful.
