WOMEN ON FIRE SWISHING IN KINGSTON UPON THAMES

On Sunday December 1st, noon to 3pm in aid of the Jeevika Trust

Dec 2013

Fancy clearing out your wardrobe or recycling unwanted presents? Please join us for a clothes swap and share a drink or lunch with other women on fire beside the river Thames in a place which saw the crowning of the first seven kings of England. (Women on Fire likes these places. Come along to hear the story.) We'll be raising money fo a well-run trust that helps low-caste and tribal women in rural India develop skills and creatively release themselves from poverty.

Swishing (the offering and receiving of unwanted clothes, shoes and accessories in good, clean condition) begins at 1pm. Come with your goodies any time from noon. A vegetarian lunch will be served at 1.30pm – you’ll need to pre-order this through us.  We ask you to make a small cash donation for each item you take away with you.

For more information on Jeevika go to http://www.jeevika.org.uk/

We’re also inviting you to help Women on Fire build a fund to help women who are not yet supported by established charities or organisations but whose bid for freedom is no less deserving.

PEACE DIRECT - an update

May 2013

Scilla Elworthy of Peace Direct (who spoke so eloquently of women peacebuilders at our Westminster event) has highlighted their growing effectiveness in an article entitled Beyond war: women transforming militarism, building a nonviolent world.

Contrary to what you might believe from television reports, there has been a 50% decline in major wars and mass violence in the last 20 years. Women are creating successful peace initiatives in some of the most extreme areas of conflict. Scilla calls for more competent women to occupy policy-making roles in all conflict countries. You can read the article online in openDemocracy

London Mayor, Boris Johnson, and Women on Fire Peas

Jun 11

Azul from Food from the Sky brought along seeds and pots to our inaugural event at Central Hall Wesminster. Lots of us on that day planted a pea along with prayers, blessings or dedications.

"They're growing well," reported Azul from the roof top garden in London's Crouch End, and sent us photos of Women on Fire peas shooting up, beautifully labelled with Women on Fire ribbon. Today, says Azul, Women on Fire peas will be presented to mayor Boris Johnson who is visiting the roof and the Food from the Sky projects.

Women on Fire, Central Hall Westminster

Apr 11

Huge thanks to everyone who came, shared and made the first Women on Fire Day something amazing. That's an overused word, but on this occasion quite accurate. Now that the template for Women on Fire is no longer just a bunch of words on a screen but a glorious, fertile reality rooted in a very splendid day, we've got lots of ideas for what next. Please add to them.

We hope to have a filmed documentary of the Women on Fire Event ready before long. Please pour into the pot ideas on how best to use it. Thanks.
